When
a major problem is suspected, remote video inspection is used to
determine what the problem is and where it is located. In this process,
a color camera is inserted into the pipe and directed to the problem
area. By doing this, a picture of the problem is visible and is
recorded for later reference. Radio detection equipment may then
be used to determine the exact location of the problem area.
Click
below to see the view of the camera within the pipe, as seen from
the video monitor screen. The quality is not as good as it would
be in person, because of the way it was recorded. You can however,
see that video inspection is the only way to understand the true
condition of a pipe. In this video, you can see a piece of brick,
within the pipe which is causing and obstruction.

How far into the pipe can the

SEWER
INSPECTIONS
Inspections
of the sanitary sewer system are a routine and essential duty for
the Sewer Maintenance Division crew. Regular inspections can help
troubleshoot and minimize problems with the collection system. Connections
to the system and unwanted sources of inflow are identified through
sewer inspections. As part of the serwer cleaning process, crew
chiefs inspect and report on any problems or deficiences within
the sanitary sewer system.
Video inspection is essential for assesing the condition of the
pipe to determine if replacement is required, or, if not, which
rehabilitaiton method woudl provide the most cost-effective remedy.
Inspection is performed using a specially designed CCTV camera with
pan and tilt viewing capabilities and built in lighting.
The camera, mounted on a self-propelled transporter, is remotely
controlled from the TV van. Camera controls also provide the ability
to overlay alpha-numeric data on the video image to provide a great
deal of information, including date, line id and distance from manhole.
The image is transmitted to the van and recorded on VHS tape. At
the same time, coded data is entered into a computer. when the inspection
is complete, a data log continuing a comprehensive pipeline profile
and evaluation is printed to accompany each video.
Upon
request, we will provide you with a VHS video tape & CD Rom
of live clips and images of the inside of your pipes.
